My Philosophy of Classroom Management
The influence of teachers extends beyond the classroom, well into the future. It is they who shape and enrich the minds of the young, who touch their hearts and souls. It is they who shape a nation's future.
F. Sionil Jose
My philosophy of manangement aligns with Dr. William Glasser's Philosophy of Discipline. He believes that choice is an important factor of a student's success. As a teacher, I will help my students make good choices and learn from them.
Students have needs in the classroom that should be embraced such as belonging, power, fun, and freedom. When these needs are met, the classroom will be less stressful and more organized. The classroom is a place for learning and collaboration with others in order to acheive academic, social, and emotional growth.
Students will have a say in the rules, consequences, and discussions. Students generally know what is right and wrong, but if they do address a rule that I know is important, I will incorporate it into the rules. The students are just as much a part of a class as the teacher is and they should be given the opportunity to make a difference in their learning and my teaching.
Even though my students will have more freedom and choice, that does not mean that I will tolerate misbehavior or accept any excuses for not acheiving their highest academic potential. I wish push my students to make the best choices and to be the best that they can be.
